Los Angeles Bail Bonds
Inside city limits, LAPD makes the arrest and books it at one of its own jails, led by the Metropolitan Detention Center downtown. A licensed agent answers every call, any hour.
After an Arrest in Los Angeles
The Los Angeles Police Department covers the whole city, from the San Fernando Valley to San Pedro. Adults it arrests are generally booked at one of three LAPD jails.
The main jail is the Metropolitan Detention Center, 180 N. Los Angeles St. The other two are the Valley Jail Section in Van Nuys and the 77th Street Regional Jail in South LA. LAPD says bail can be posted at its jails 24 hours a day. Anyone still in custody after arraignment is moved to the Sheriff's county jails.
Felony cases from downtown are usually heard at the Clara Shortridge Foltz Criminal Justice Center, 210 W. Temple St. Other cases go to the branch courthouse that serves the area of the arrest, such as Van Nuys or the Airport Courthouse. LAPD notes that the arraignment court depends on the case, so we'll confirm it with you.
Our closest office is in Santa Ana. You won't need to drive there: the application, signatures and payment can all be handled by phone while a licensed agent works the case.

What Happens After a Los Angeles Arrest
A short guide to the agencies, jail and court involved in a Los Angeles arrest.
Los Angeles Police Department
LAPD operates three jails: the Metropolitan Detention Center downtown, the 77th Street Regional Jail, and the Valley Jail in Van Nuys.
Metropolitan Detention Center
Bail, including a surety bond, can be posted at LAPD jails. People who stay in custody after arraignment are remanded to the Sheriff's Department.
Clara Shortridge Foltz Criminal Justice Center
Many criminal cases are heard at this downtown courthouse, but LAPD notes the arraignment court depends on where the arrest happened and the charge.
Common Questions
Where are people arrested in Los Angeles taken?
LAPD books adults at one of its three jails: the Metropolitan Detention Center downtown, the Valley Jail Section in Van Nuys or the 77th Street Regional Jail. If they've already been arraigned, they may be in a Sheriff's facility. Give us a name and date of birth and we'll locate them.
How do I check the court date for a Los Angeles case?
Enter the case number in the LA Superior Court's online case lookup to see upcoming hearings. If you only have a name, the court's defendant-name search finds the case number for a fee. The citation or release paperwork also lists the date.
Where can bail be posted for an LAPD arrest?
At LAPD jails, which accept cash, a surety bond from a licensed bail agent, a cashier's check or money orders. To check whether someone is in custody, call (213) 473-6100; the line covers LAPD and Sheriff's jails.
How long does release from an LAPD jail take?
It depends on the jail's workload and how quickly the booking clears. LAPD accepts bail at its jails around the clock, so once the bond is posted the release paperwork can start right away. We stay on it and call you as soon as they're out.
Is bail still required in Los Angeles County?
Since Oct 1, 2023, LA Superior Court's pre-arraignment release rules mean most misdemeanors and non-violent, non-serious felonies are cited or booked and released without money bail before arraignment. Serious and violent felonies are still bailable under the county bail schedule. Call us and we'll tell you whether bail applies.
How much does a bail bond cost in Los Angeles?
Premiums are typically 10% of the bail amount, based on rates filed with the California Department of Insurance. We explain the full cost up front, and flexible payment plans are available.
Do I have to come to the office?
No. You can sign everything from your phone, any hour. If you'd prefer to meet in person, our nearest office is in Santa Ana at 200 N Broadway, Ste 100-A.
